Sir Donald Bradman's Centenary Celebrations
Cootamundra celebrated the centenary of the birth of Sir Donald Bradman on Wednesday 27 August.
The youngest of five children Bradman went on to become a cricket icon of the 1930's and also one of the best cricketers in the world. He played in 52 Test matches for Australia from 1928 to 1948 and made 29 Test hundreds.
Bradman was born at 89 Adams Street Cootamundra to George and Emily on 27 August 1908. Bradman was delivered by Eliza Scholz at the Adams Street house, which is now the Bradman Birthplace Museum.
The Museum is not the only tribute to Bradman and cricket in Cootamundra. A series of bronze busts of Australian Test cricket captains, called 'Captain's Walk' is erected in Jubilee Park in Cootamundra as part of the recognition to Bradman and also Bill Murdoch, who captained Australia in 1880, 1882 and 1884 and worked in the town for several years.
Tom Bradman, Grandson to the late Sir Donald Bradman, unveiled the Bradman bust made by sculptor Tom Bass.
