South Australia v Western Australia at Adelaide Oval

STARVED of success in recent seasons, South Australia will focus on securing first innings points against Western Australia before entertaining any thoughts of an outright victory in the Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Oval.

Yet to post their first Shield points of the season, the Redbacks were solidly placed at 2-146 at stumps on day two in reply to the Warriors' 309.

An unbeaten century stand between Cameron Borgas (60) and Michael Klinger (52) had rescued the home side after they had slumped to 2-28 at one stage.

With eight wickets in hand Borgas said the Redbacks would set their sights on a first innings lead before considering how an outright result might be engineered.

"If we do that then the game will probably be set up in a situation where there will be an opportunity for us to bowl Western Australia out or for them to set us a target on the last day," he said.

"There's still plenty of time left in the game and depending on how long we bat for tomorrow I'm sure there will be plenty of time to set up an outright result."

On a personal level Borgas said it was good to be back among the runs after a lean spell last season and he remained hopeful of pressing on.

"They've sustained the pressure really well and haven't let us kick on I suppose but hopefully tomorrow, if we can hang in there long enough, the opportunity will come when we can score a bit quicker," he said.

Klinger's half-century continued his consistent run for SA this season after he moved to Adelaide from Victoria during the off-season to enhance his opportunities at first-class level.

Borgas said it was great to bat with the former Bushranger who "never looked like getting out".

Earlier, Wes Robinson hit a stoic 141 for the visitors to hold their innings together while SA spinner Dan Cullen marked his return to the state side with three wickets.
