Tintu Luka rewrites record

Despite being way below her best, Kozhikode’s Tintu Luka comfortably shattered the under-20 girls’ 800m meet record in the Holiday Group Kerala State athletics championship which began at the Maharaja’s Stadium here on Friday evening.

The 19-year-old, a trainee of the Usha School of Athletics, was in a league of her own in the final. Tintu’s was one of the six records to fall.

Steny Michael (under-18 girls’ high jump), J. Saranya (under-20 girls’ shot put), U.N. Arun Kumar (under-18 boys’ 800m), C.S. Sindhyamol (under-18 girls’ 300m) and V. P. Alfin (under-16 boys’ shot put) set the day’s other records.

C.C. Thambi, CMD of Holiday Group, inaugurated the three-day meet.
