Roddick and Monfils win in Qatar
Andy Roddick and Gael Monfils enjoyed comfortable wins in the season-opening Qatar Open in Doha.
American fourth seed Roddick eased past Ivan Navarro of Spain 6-1 6-3 with a double break in each set, while Monfils beat Czech Jan Harnych 6-2 6-2.
British number one Andy Murray and partner Ross Hutchins were beaten by German pair Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber 7-5 6-4 in the doubles.
World number one Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer play on Tuesday.
Murray was knocked out in the first round of the doubles in just over an hour on Monday.
The defending champion, who beat both Nadal and Federer in the exhibition event in Abu Dhabi at the weekend, begins his singles campaign in Doha against Albert Montanes, a top-50 Spaniard.
The Scot, 21, is due to face Federer in the semi-finals should both progress. Murray is seeded third for the tournament.
The total prize money on offer at the Qatar Open is £760,000
