Liu Chunhong defends Gold, Breaks World Record

Defending champion Liu Chunhong of China triumphed again in the Women's 69 kilogram Weightlifting final on Wednesday, August 13, after lifting 286kg in total weight.
In the Snatch, Liu was the last to step onto the floor and broke the world record with her second attempt of 125kg. She then went on to break her own record by lifting 128kg. Natalya Davydova of Ukraine and Oxana Slivenko of Russia both lifted 115kg.
During the Clean and Jerk, Liu set a new world record for total weight by lifting 149kg with her second attempt, but quickly broke it again with a successful last attempt of 158kg, which is also the new world record for the Clean and Jerk.
Slivenko lifted 140kg in the Clean and Jerk and placed second with a total weight of 255kg. Davydova ranked third with a total weight of 250kg.
