Surprised by Sourav Ganguly’s one line announcement of his retirement, former India great Kapil Dev said, "It is time to rejoice a glorious career which heralded a new era for Indian cricket."

A visibly emotional Kapil termed the decision as surprising. "What a wonderful cricket he played. India looked completely different under his captaincy. He spoke his mind and I believe that this decision he took was an emotional one," Kapil added.

"Sourav we are proud of you."

"Its time to rejoice his heroics, he was a great hitter of the cricket ball on the off side. One must give the greatest Indian captain his due. The decision was expected and I wish him happy retired life and a glorious series ahead," Kapil said.
