Venus & Zvonareva win Doha spots

Venus Williams and Vera Zvonareva have claimed the final two places in the season-ending WTA Tour Championships.

The world's top eight singles players and top four doubles teams will compete from 4-9 November in Doha.

Also in the singles are Jelena Jankovic, Serena Williams, Ana Ivanovic, Dinara Safina, Elena Dementieva and Svetlana Kuznetsova.

"Competing against the players who have performed the best in 2008 is an exciting challenge," said Venus.

"This year has been a very positive year for me and I am looking forward to continued success in Doha."

Wimbledon champion Venus Williams will be making her third appearance in the season-ending event but first since 2002, having reached two semi-finals.

Russian Zvonareva will appear for the second time but the first since 2004.

"It's a great accomplishment," said Zvonareva. "It has been a while since I last played and it feels wonderful to be one of the best eight players."

Jankovic is the world number one, Ivanovic won the French Open, Serena Williams is the US Open champion, Safina is the Roland Garros runner-up and world number two, Dementieva won gold at the Olympics and Kuznetsova is a former US Open champion.
