Coyle stays calm despite victory

Burnley manager Owen Coyle insists he will not allow his players to get carried away despite Wednesday's stunning Carling Cup defeat of Chelsea.

The Championship outfit overcame the Premier League title hopefuls on penalties after the game finished 1-1.

"There is no doubt this is a superb win and it was especially pleasing that we showed we can play positive football against a top side," said Coyle.

"But I'm quite calm. We must now focus on a massive league game on Saturday."

Jon Mikel Obi missed the crucial spot-kick in sudden death, his penalty brilliantly palmed away by Clarets keeper Brian Jensen to spark joyful scenes among the Burnley fans.

But Coyle insisted: "Regardless of the result, what pleased me most was the way we played and the fact that we came to a place like Stamford Bridge and held our own.

"I felt we were always in the game, moving the ball well and, as well as our goal, we had chances too. I couldn't have asked for more from the players.

"Now it is our duty to show that passion, that work rate and that ability against QPR in the league on Saturday. We can certainly go there without any fear and, while we'll enjoy tonight, it's back to work on Thursday morning."

Chelsea counterpart Luiz Felipe Scolari, meanwhile, refused to get too downbeat about the defeat, saying: "It's a competition that in one game you lose and you are out.

"Burnley played very well and we missed many chances in the game, we only scored one goal and we had five or six chances to score a second and made a mistake with the shot. With one chance they arrived there.

"They tried hard and they had more quality in the penalties than us. We practice penalties but in training it's different to when we play and we need to win one time."
