Hard training by Yuvraj yielding results, says father

Yuvraj Singh, who scored back-to-back centuries against England, is reaping the benefits of hard training, his father and former Test cricketer Yograj Singh said on Monday.

"We have been training really hard for the past six months. We have specially trained on his upper body with heavy weights besides doing extensive running and other exercises," Yograj said.

He said Yuvraj had been spending lot of time in the gym recently and had worked really hard.

"It has been complete power training for him and you must have seen the difference in his shots. His hits have been gone long way over the boundary ropes," Yograj said, adding he was of the opinion that "you have to have different training than others to make great players".

The Punjab batsman, who decimated the English attack scoring a blazing 138 not out in the opening one-dayer at Rajkot on Friday, came good again with another hundred at Indore on Monday just when his team needed it the most.

Yograj, who himself coaches budding cricketers at his Academy here, said he keeps regularly talking to his son and gives him tips on how to further improve his game.

"I was happy with his innings on Monday which was a really responsible knock as India were struggling at one stage. However, I was very upset the way he got out playing the shot away from his body. I hate when he throws his wicket and I keep telling him that it does not matter whether you are batting on 100 or 200, but you must never give away your wicket," he said.

Yuvraj fell to Stuart Broad in the 44th over on Monday, the same bowler whom he battered by hitting six consecutive sixes during the Twenty20 World Cup.
