Brad Hodge closing in on Victorian record
Victorian batsman Brad Hodge will enter tomorrow's Sheffield Shield match against Queensland in sight of becoming his state's leading run-scorer in first-class cricket.
Hodge needs only 15 runs to overtake former team-mate Dean Jones's tally of 10,412 first-class runs, having made 104 and 23 in last week's drawn match against South Australia.
Hodge has scored 10,398 runs in his 136 first-class matches for Victoria.
His appearance at the Gabba tomorrow will also draw him to just one behind the record number of first-class appearances for the state, currently held by former wicketkeeper Darren Berry (138).
The Bushrangers are not expected to make any changes, while Queensland is also going in unchanged.
The Bulls opened their season with an outright win over Tasmania in Brisbane last week.
But captain Chris Simpson is looking for an improved effort with the bat after the Bulls were dismissed for 62 in their second innings.
"There were two failures with the top order there. There's no excuse for that," he said.
"Individually we need to work out how we are going to fix that up. I don't think it's more of a team tactic.
"It's individually based: how we are going to do that if in a similar situation again."
