Barmy Army not happy with Mohali as a venue

Due to it proximity to Pakistan border, Mohali as the second Test venue for India and England did not go down well with the English supporters, who are now reassessing plans of touring the subcontinent, a spokesman for the unofficial 'Barmy Army' said on Thursday.

Paul Winslow said Mohali was hardly in keeping with the fans' preference for venues as it is only a few hours drive from the Pakistan border.

"I don't think any of us are worried about Chennai. But Mohali is a little too close to Pakistan for our liking," Winslow was quoted as saying in the 'Daily Telegraph'.

"If the Indian Board have put that venue forward, I am sure they must be confident of looking after the players. But I would be very surprised if anyone has given much thought to the spectators.

"The original numbers we were expecting were around 100 for Ahmedabad and 500 for Mumbai. At the moment everyone is talking to each other about flights and hotels and trying to work out what to do," he added.

However, Winslow who toured Pakistan and Sri Lanka with the England side said he was still planning to go ahead with the tour despite some feelings of anxiety.

"You would have to be mad to treat the situation in India at the moment flippantly. But I've paid for my flights to Mumbai and I want to go and watch some cricket," said Wilslow.

"There is part of me that thinks 'Wouldn't it be nice just to go to Goa for a couple of weeks instead?' But I got on the tube the day after the London bombings and I don't want to let terrorists dictate what I can and can't do.

"The only thing is that I will probably have to skip the last day of the series, because otherwise I won't be able to get back home for Christmas," he added.
